It is interesting that a much higher percentage of people believe in the existence of heaven than belief in the existence of hell. According to the Bible, though, hell is just as real as heaven. The Bible clearly and explicitly teaches that hell is a real place.
Now of course, it is impossible for me or anyone to convince you on these matters. We are dealing with spiritual issues here and only God can reveal Himself, His ways and His plans to man. So then, how one interprets the Bible determines how one will believe in God, Heaven, Hell, Faith; Who Jesus is, etc… for one must first believe that the Bible is the revealed word of God to man before they can have a true view of what all these things really are.
This book is more than just a book written about God, it is the Living Word of God written by God to Reveal God and truths about God and the truths about us.
So what does the Bible say in regards to hell, does it give a literal picture that this place is as real as the room we are in today…I believe it does.
In the Bible, Jesus says more about Hell than He does about anything else.
“And do not fear those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Mat 10:28)
“Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it shall be in the end of this world. The Son of Man shall send out His angels, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who do iniquity, and shall cast them into a furnace of fire. There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” (Mat 13:40-42)
He refers to it as a literal place and describes it in graphic terms–including raging fires and the worm that doesn’t die. Christ says the unsaved “will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 8:12).
There are more things we can find out about Hell from the Biblical account.
Hell is described throughout Scripture as:
1. “eternal fire” (Matthew 25:41),
2. “unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12),
3. “shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2),
4. a place where “the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:44-49),
5. a place of “torment” and “fire” (Luke 16:23-24), In his story of the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus taught that in Hell, the wicked suffer terribly, are fully conscious, retain their desires and memories and reasoning, long for relief, cannot be comforted, cannot leave their torment, and are bereft of hope (Luke 16:19-31). The Savior could not have painted a more bleak or graphic picture.
6. Hell is “everlasting destruction” (2 Thessalonians 1:9),
7. a place where “the smoke of torment rises forever and ever” (Revelation 14:10-11), and
8. a “lake of burning sulfur” where the wicked are “tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).
9. Hell is as never-ending as the bliss of the righteous in heaven. Jesus Himself indicates that punishment in hell is just as everlasting as life in heaven (Matthew 25:46). The wicked are forever subject to the fury and the wrath of God.
10. Those in hell will acknowledge the perfect justice of God (Psalm 76:10). Those who are in hell will know that their punishment is just and that they alone are to blame (Deuteronomy 32:3-5).
The terrifying reality of hell is that it will be a place of complete, unending separation from God.
If Hell is real who ends up there?
“And I saw a great white throne, and Him sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And a place was not found for them. And I saw the dead, the small and the great, stand before God. And books were opened, and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and hell delivered up the dead in them. And each one of them was judged according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death. And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the Lake of Fire.” (Rev 20:11-15)
According to the Bible is Hell for Real? Yes, hell is real. Yes, hell is a place of torment and punishment that lasts forever and ever, with no end. Praise God that, through Jesus, we can escape this eternal fate (John 3:16, 18, 36).
Here’s the reality if there is a choice of destination, why not choose eternity with the Lord. Revelations 22:1-5. Don’t take the chance of eternal damnation when Jesus died for humanity to live.
