What is Reign?

By Jane Gray

When we hear the word rain, the first thing that comes to mind is the physical aspect of rain, water and getting wet, but biblically we think of Noah and the Great Seven Day Flood. In the book of (Genesis chapter 9), God makes a covenant with Noah and all creation that he will never again destroy the world by floodwaters, and the rainbow in the clouds is a reminder of his promise.

But what is the definition of reign – to have power, control or authority over a place, people or nation for a period of time, a term, or all eternity.

So God promises not to destroy the earth with floodwaters, but he say he would destroy the earth,

2nd Peter 3:10 says But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which, the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The word of God warns us to be ready, to prepare for his return, the Bible says to watch and pray, and to allow the word of God to keep us and to be submissive.

Romans 6:12-15

12. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it and the lust thereof.

13. Neither yield your instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: But yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

14. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for he are not under the law, but under grace.

15. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

This means the old man is dead, old things are passed away and behold All things are new. We are now free from the law of sin and death, Jesus conquered sin and death on the cross, why do we yield our members/instruments (body, mind, heart, and mouths) to sin? When the Bible says,

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God Do not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

We are all born into sin and have all sinned and fallen short of his glory, and yes a good man will fall seven times and get back up, but that does not mean living a continuous sinful lifestyle.

We must study and meditate on the Word of God, otherwise, we’ll be powerless and overtaken by the cares of the world and the deceitfulness riches and the lust thereof (1 John 2:16) for our help comes from the Lord, and the power we need is in his word. And we want to be ready for his return, so praise God that Satan was given only temporary dominion over the earth, and he has but a short time.

1 Corinthians 15:25-26 For he must REIGN, till he hath put all enemies under his feet, the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

Oh yes! that is definitely something to get excited about, the hope and the promise of no more death, no more sickness, no more pain, no more suffering and no more grieving the loss and separation from our loved ones which death causes.

For Jesus will Reign

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgement was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

We can celebrate in the Lord knowing we are victorious, and have faith and believe in just a short time we will have everlasting joy, uninterrupted peace for all eternity, for we shall forever be with the Lord
