The Joy in suffering

Written by,

I know it may seem like a crazy concept but the reality, the church must find, “The Joy in suffering.” We will look at the word of God to understand how to be complete in Christ when you are suffering for the gospel.

Consider, “Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted (Matt. 5:4).” In this case, the dominant color of faith is authenticity—being vulnerable about the nature of one’s loss. God’s light takes the form of comfort in this context of loss. The result is the capacity for joy, a very skinny color in the immediate moment, is a slowly returned as precious memories you loved one can be savored again.

Joy and suffering don’t normally fit. But the Bible shows that in the Christian life, suffering and joy can be friends because Jesus, the Suffering Servant, made them so. When God gets involved, his revealed purpose colors all our suffering, changing the tint from darkness to light. That doesn’t mean our hardships are less painful or difficult. But God gives us the grace to endure, revealing along the way the larger purpose behind his work. In our suffering, we see more of Jesus and his purposes than we can on the clearest of days. The Lord is near to the broken-hearted.

Romans 8:18-23 King James Version (KJV)

“18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,

21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”

Satan hates the word of God period, and if you are a New Covenant living Epistle he hates you to and deems you not profitable teach the word of God.

Isaiah 50:7 King James Version (KJV)

7 For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

If you find the below verse as apart of your walk you should rejoice for the end closer than you think

Matthew 24:9-14 King James Version (KJV)

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Our eternal hope are not in the things of this world – they are in the eternal promises of God found in His word

Hebrews 12:2 King James Version (KJV)

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

See the problem with suffering, we as believers don’t expect to suffer until it happens – living in expectation qualifies one to be just like Christ.

I know beloved, how do I find joy in suffering.

Nobody wants to lose heart. Who wakes up everyday and yes I’m going to suffer of just lose all hope. That is not the contextual understanding. I really want to be discouraged this morning by what John says.” Not one of us. Nobody wants the heart for living knocked out of you. Neither did Paul.

On the contrary, everybody wants inner renewal day by day. We all know that feeling of strength and newness and hope and vitality and courage and zest for life last for a little while, and then they tend to drain away. If we are going to be strong on the inside and have hope and joy and resources to love, we are going to have to be renewed day by day. We know that. Life is not static or unfluctuating. It is up and down and up. It is filling and deplete and fill again. It renews, expends, renews, expends, renews.

Every one of us wants the power of renewal. Nobody here wants to be left in the valley of depletion and emptiness and discouragement. If there is a secret to being made strong, hopeful, joyful, and loving again and again and again day by day, we’re interested.

Joy is only in the word of God. Peace is only found in the word of God.

David does a remarkable job in the psalms to encourage the believer in Palms 23 the expression of his cry allows us to understand God is never far.

David says that death is only a shadow and that we are to rejoice because we are only passing through. (Than he says on this journey God has provided two angels, goodness and mercy.) Watch this – I’ve provided for them to follow you all the days of this life. Then to assure you, the more or greater the suffering the greater the feast I will prepare for you in the presence of your enemies. I will reveal more to you than even!

By this time David’s begins a new Doxology in Psalms 91 KJV

I will close with psalms 91 – please give close consideration to what the Psalmist is saying.

Psalm 91 King James Version (KJV)

91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the highestshall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Because we are in the image of God’s word we have the same protection as his shadow – Jesus

2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. Let the noise and chaos run! The battle is not our it belongs to God…

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday – here he gives the period of time – thus when you expect the enemy you will guard your heart for where in are the issues of life.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. he has already received the reward for his deeds.

9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Joy is found in Gods word- the Holy Ghost!
