At the Cross is where I First saw the light

Allow me to say we are humbled by the number of readers, “to God be the glory.”

Have you ever notice that within most church services you never hear the message of the cross? To be honest there shouldn’t be one service to where the message of the cross is ministered. The word of God gives reason for this. “At the Cross is where I First saw the light.”

Our topic scripture today will come from;

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. … but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

The cross is the fulfillment of what was prophetically spoken in the old covenant revealed in Christ.

It is so important to the preaching of the gospel. Allow us to explain its significance.

Jesus as a man tried to void the covenant. God would not allow him to void because in the spirit realm it was already complete because it was based on the word of God that can not go out and return void.

Isaiah 53:10 King James Version (KJV)

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

If Jesus would have not died on the cross it would have made God a lie. Which again would have voided the scriptures.

Matthew 26:36-46

GethsemaneRemember God can not lie

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. 41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Numbers 23:19 King James Version (KJV)

“19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”

The only time in His earthly ministry did he try to do it his way, but God said no. Do you understand now the importance of the cross. Salvation came at the cross.

Hebrews 6:13-15 KJV

“13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”

It’s saddening to see the opportunity social media allows for the truth preaching of the cross/the gospel and yet you hear nothing of its importance. Well it’s not new, this is and age old concern. ✍🏽

In Conclusion, When the Apostle Paul went to the great and intellectual Grecian city of Corinth, he said, “I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). When Paul described what his message was, he said, “We preach Christ crucified” (1 Corinthians 1:23).

To the people of Corinth the preaching of the cross was foolishness, nonsense. But Paul said, “The foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Corinthians 1:25). In that great intellectual center, the cross of Christ was a stumbling block to the children of Israel, and to the Gentiles it was sheer idiocy.

This Gospel of Christ and Him crucified is still foolishness to millions who are perishing all over the world today. How few people recognize that the answer to all the world’s problems can be found at the foot of the cross.

As we stand at the cross today and gaze on a confused and frustrated world, God asks the question, “Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe” (1 Corinthians 1:20-21.)

“We preach Christ crucified.” This is the focal point of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a picture of blood flowing from Christ’s veins as He hung on the cross. The message of shed blood is repugnant to many, and they turn from such a gory sight, feeling that their delicate sensibilities have been outraged. Many people will accept Christ’s character, but they reject His crucifixion.

The people of Corinth were blind to Christ crucified and what it meant. To them, His death in this manner was foolishness. The Greek word here is moria, which literally means “idiocy.” Out of this Greek word comes the word moron. This is how the Corinthians evaluated the crucifixion of Christ.

The idea of a world being saved by Christ crucified was indeed foolishness to those who were proud and boastful and who thought the wisdom of the world was vested in them. How different it is for those of us who, in simple faith, know Christ crucified. For us, the cross is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

The opinions of this blog are those of its author. In no way do we claim to be and expert or the only with revelation. We simply express what the Holy Spirit reveals to encourage the body of Christ based on Ephesians 4:11 KJV

This blog is to honor a women of peace and love for God. As a young child the cross is forever in my heart. As a gracious women of God, Sister Dorthy Lowery would start worship service with the song, “At the Cross is where I First saw the light and the burdens of my heart rolled away.” Now I understand. Gone but not forgotten.

I’m not in competition, I’m simply doing what the Apostle Paul told young Timothy, inform the world. Preach the Gospel.

The past is only the past unless you learn from it.
