Encourage yourself in the Lord

Written by,

Robert Johnson

When things are going wrong, it seems like there is no end of suffering, and the more I call on the Lord the less I get a word. So the question is how do I “encourage myself in the Lord?”

Allow us to define two words. When you gather both meanings we will find how to strengthen the hope of glory that remains in our lives.

Beloved, don’t quit don’t give up the answer to your God-given destiny is revealed in the word of God.

Encourage yourself by definition…> “give support and advice to (someone) so that they will do or continue to do something. pupils are encouraged to be creative”

Yourself by definition…> ” 1 used to refer to the person being addressed as the object of a verb or preposition when they are also the subject of the clause.” help yourselves, boys”
2. you personally (used to emphasize the person being addressed).” you’re going to have to do it yourself”

If we place both definitions together we come up with – the only way to help oneself in the word of God. We are to do nothing without God…

Proverbs 3:5-7 King James Version (KJV)

5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

When nothing else will work, encourage yourself in the Lord. Do it with the word of God. “Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.”

The word of God is the only reality to the believer’s encouragement. We can do nothing of ourselves.

For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scriptures. Romans 15:4 Holman Christian Bible

Strength Bible Verses

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. Zephaniah 3:17

All the scriptures written have a prophetic undertone – that when applied to self-encouragement changes the disposition of my reality.

We are not to just use God’s word as a medium of scripture – the word of God brings life to the trial, temptation, or struggle.

Examplemost would use David but I will go in a different direction.

“John the Baptist”

Luke 7:18-23, where we see one of the greatest men in Biblical history experience a moment of doubt. But what is more encouraging still is to see how Jesus responds. Jesus doesn’t berate him.

Jesus doesn’t belittle him. Jesus doesn’t rebuke or reprimand him. Jesus just loves him and gives the man what he needs to overcome his doubt. The man who experiences this period of doubt is none other than John the Baptist.

He is the greatest Old Testament prophet. Jesus says of him that of those born of women from creation up till that time, none were greater than John the Baptist.

In Luke 7:18-19, he sends two of his disciples to question Jesus. He sends them to say, “Jesus, was I right about You? Are You really who I said You were? Are You the Messiah? Did I understand Scripture correctly?

Luke 7:18-19. Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”

The Response of Jesus

Matthew 11 KJV “4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:

5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”

Why did Jesus tell John about the miracles that had happened?

The only way to encourage the self for the believer is in the time of heartache to show complete faith in the word of God.

Jesus didn’t speak to John based on his own understanding – Jesus responds with the confirmation of God’s word. Johns is strengthen based on the word of God being revealed and not returning to God void. The trial is never yours, it belongs to God and then stand on the word in the face of adversity God receives glory.

Here’s why – go with us to Isaiah chapter 35 KJV – Jesus can only to John what was written as a testimony to God’s word.

I pray you have your Bible…

This is incredible!

Isaiah 35 King James Version (KJV)

35 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. Jesus/the word.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God. (The word of God – Jesus)

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. (Who have sinned this man or his parent – none this is so that God will receive the glory based on what is written in his word.

6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. (The man at the gate called beautiful-Peter &John “Look on us” Gods word)

7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

(I will be in you as a well of water springing up into everlasting life)

8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. (salvation through the blood of Jesus the work of the cross.)

In Closing, Johns strength came from what he already knew the word of God.

Romans 10:17 King James Version (KJV)

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Hebrews 11:6 King James Version (KJV)

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Hebrews 11:3 KJV

Through faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
