In life, we all go through seasons.  Some are wonderful.  Some are very rough.  We go through mountain-top experiences and we go through deserts, but God never fails. “Your spiritual strength is based on your experience”

Psalms 1 Division 1 Book

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

 Chances are, your answer is based on your life experiences right now.  Me too.  Perhaps, you just received a great new job or perhaps you are without a job.  Perhaps, you are having a great season with your children right now or perhaps they are being very challenging.  Perhaps, your marriage is in a great place, or perhaps you are struggling.

I’ve learned one thing, many choose to believe in the flesh because of pass experiences. They take what is palpable to everyone else, make the experience aesthetic and wear the emotions of the pass instead of believing the Lord for His strength – 

Romans 8:28 NIV

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. “Your spiritual strength is based on your experience”

It is natural for us to experience the ebb and flow of emotions connected with the variation in our life experiences and seasons. So, how do we deal with these peaks and valleys, these various seasons of our life?

As I read more and more stories of the Bible, I see that God used many flawed people in many great ways through many peaks and valleys.  These people also seemed to eventually get in the flow with God’s way of doing things.  And I figured, if it worked for them, it can work for us!  So, let’s look at what I mean by getting in the flow.

The point of getting in the flow is to help us always keep our focus firmly on God and follow His ways for us – what ever mountain, valley the experience will only strengthen you –

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you; do not turn aside to the right or to the left. 

King David’s experience with a Lion and a Bear strengthened him for the confrontation with Goliath –

Deuteronomy 5:32 NIV

No matter what season you are in, staying focused on God and staying in the flow will help us experience His peace and love regardless of our circumstances, the way that the Apostle Paul described

Philippians 4:12-13 NIV

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. 

We worship a strong and mighty God: Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? Jeremiah 32:27

And though I know this my heart fails, I get anxious, I look for ways to be a solution, where I need to remember that God is my strength. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7

I need to remember … God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Tim 1:7 And then I realised… Anxiety is a lack of self-control; anxiety is focusing on the fear, the unknown, the hard, not on Jesus.

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord. Psalm 27:14

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Proverbs 3:5-7

In Closing, my encouragement to myself: God is my strength – not my own wisdom, abilities or reputation. And I trust that this is a timely reminder for you as well. We all face different challenges and yet, we worship the same God – a God who is

  • Omnipotent – all powerful
  • Omnipresent – all places – everywhere
  • Omniscient – all knowing

Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7

Galatians 6:9 NIV

9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
